I thought that it would be nice to share a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to keep the Cooking Hawaiian Style website and cooking show going and to share some of the amazing experiences with you!

I wanted to create the Food Lab so that I can share some of my latest recipe creations with you. Some of these creations are for my clients like Taro Brand or Aloha Shoyu and some are for my Cookbook and some are just ideas that I have.  I love to create and I would love to try some ideas that you have so email me with your ideas.

Kitchen Mistake - New Creation: Poi Kulolo Krisps

I was in the kitchen trying to create a kulolo style fruit leather.  When I pulled my first batch out of the oven, they didn't quite seem right.  So I let them sit on the stove top to cool... came back and they were super crispy like brittle.  I tasted them and it took on the form of a super crispy hard candy that tasted similar to kulolo with hints of honey, sugar, poi and coconut milk.  I loved them!  So I made another batch, but sprinkled ground macadamia nuts and ground coconut and they were amazing.  I want to make my next batch by dipping them in chocolate and then rolling in mac nuts etc... the options are endless.  The main ingredient in this is Taro Brand poi.  I am so excited to share this recipe with all of you!  Give them a try and let me know what you think?

Taro Pumpkin Spice Macadamia Nut Cookies

I love to experiment and today was one of those days that I felt like creating something... Who knew that Taro Brand's new line of pancake mixes would turn out to be a great base to make your cookie creations a reality?  Today I tried Taro Brand's new Taro Macadamia Nut Pancake Mix to make these Taro Pumpkin Spice Macadamia Nut Cookies and they came out really good!  They are soft on the inside, with that warm comforting pumpkin spice and macadamia nuts in every bite.  The exterior has a nice crispy crunch to them with a sprinkle of sugar and spice that really tops this cookie off.  If you are looking for a fun, easy Halloween or holiday cookie, try this recipe:

The Food Lab!

I have been tapping into my creative side in the last couple of months and one of the things that I love to do is create recipes.  I love coming up with new ideas and developing new recipes with new twists!  One of the companies that I work with is Taro Brand - an iconic Hawaii company that most of us in Hawaii have grown up with and have eaten their products all of our lives.  

Here is my latest creation - Poi Pumpkin Crunch.  This is a re-creation of a popular holiday dish that we always server for Thanksgiving.  My goal for this dish was to see how I could incorporate poi into the filling an to see if I could use Taro Brand's Taro Pancake mix for the cookie crust...  I was really pleased with the results and wanted to share this local-style version of this recipe, created just for you!
