Al & Rosa Harringtons Tiger Rice Cooker Shoyu Gohan
Al and Rosa Harrington are in the kitchen giving us a healthy but popular local recipe that we can thank the Japanese for. During the plantation days they got very creative with their foods and had to make the most of what was available to eat.
Shoyu Gohan is a Hawaii favorite that has a variety of ingredients. This week, Al and Rosa show us how easy it is to us a Tiger rice cooker (the mercedes of rice cookers) to make a healthier version with vegetables, chicken and brown rice in one pot.
This is a great one for the beach or pot lucks, enjoy.
3 cups washed brown rice
3 cans low sodium chicken broth
3 tablespoons low-sodium Aloha shoyu
3 tablespoons Mirin
1-1.5 cups shredded rotisserie chicken
1 carrot sliced or use mini carrots
1 can waterchestnuts
1 handful of cilantro chopped
Pepper to taste
4 teaspoons agave or honey
1 cup water
Garnish with fresh cilantro, chopped
Add all ingredients to rice cooker. Set rice cooker setting to brown rice. When done cooking, fluff rice with fork, put in serving dish and garnish with fresh cilantro.
