Maui Electric Company President Sharon Suzuki in another exciting episode of CookingHawaiianStyle shares with Lanai Tabura his family favorite recipe for tempura.
1-1/2 cups water
1-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking power
¼ teaspoon salt
1/2 lb shrimp, cleaned, shelled and deveined
1/2 cup green beans, cleaned and julienned
1/2 cup carrots, julienned
Beat eggs, stir in water. In a bowl, sift flour, baking powder and salt. Sift ingredients and fold into egg mixture to form batter. Prep shrimp (butterfly) and green beans and carrots (julienned). Heat oil to 350 degrees. Dip shrimp or vegetables into batter and carefully place in hot oil. Cook for about a minute.
Serve and eat immediately.
