Taro Wontons w/Salted Coconut Sauce
Taro wontons with a sweet savory salted coconut dipping sauce. Perfect as an appetizer or is it dessert? You decide!
- 1/2 cup taro root, cubed
- 1/4 teaspoon five spice powder
- 2 Tablespoons honey
- 2 Tablespoons shredded coconut
- 1 Package wonton wrappers
- 1/2 cup coconut cream
- 1 Tablespoon heavy cream
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 TB large crystal sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Place some water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Place the cubed taro root in the water and boil, uncovered, for about 10 minutes. Drain and place into a small bowl,mash the taro. Add in the spice, honey and coconut and mix well. Set aside and allow to slightly cool.
Heat oil to 350 degrees. Working in batches, place wontons into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on both sides.
Remove from oil, drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon mixture, while the oil is still wet.
Serve immediately with the salted coconut sauce on the side.
Combine coconut cream, salt and heavy cream in bowl. Serve with wontons.
