  • 1-1 1/2 cups Yellow Mustard
  • 3/4-1 cup Rice Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp. Liquid Smoke
  • 2 tsp. Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Honey
  • 1/2 tsp Cayenne (add more if you like spicy)
  • 1/2 tsp Chili Powder (add more if you like spicy)
  • Fresh Ground Pepper to your liking

yields 1 1/2 cups sauce

Cooking Process:

Homemade BBQ Sauce

Whisk all your ingredients together in a bowl.

Simmer on low heat for 30 minutes then jar for future use OR pour over raw meat and place in slow cooker for desired time.

You’re going to braise your short ribs so first season with fresh ground salt & pepper, then sear or lightly fry, in extra virgin olive oil, over a medium-high flame for 1-3 minutes. You want the outside to be seared with a little bit of dark color (but not burnt) and the inside still raw. Using a pair of tongs, remove your short ribs from the frying pan and place at least a 1/2 an inch apart, bone down, in your slow cooker. Pour your homemade BBQ sauce evenly over your short ribs, cover and slow cook on low for 4-5 hours. You’ll find your short rib meat will be tough when it’s cooked all the way through. The last hour is crucial in that it softens the meat, so it will fall off the bone.
