GARLIC TULIP PUPU

Maa TanuvasaSuper Bowl champion Maa Tanuvasa joins us in the Cooking Hawaiian Style kitchen. The retired NFL defensive end has 2 championship rings and spent most of his career with the Denver Broncos. He was drafted in the 8th round by the Los Angeles Rams in 1993 but after his rookie year spent 1 year with the Pittsburg Steelers.

 

He really made some noise in the NFL as he led the Broncos with the most sacks in 1998 and 1999. He was then inducted into the Hawai'i Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Our host Lanai was lucky enough to meet Maa during his career with the Broncos, as he would visit his radio show often in the off season.

1 can Tulip luncheon meat
2 medium cloves of garlic
Ground black pepper to taste
2 Tbsp vegetable oil 


Cooking Process:

1. Heat oil and place cubed tulip in to pan in one layer
2. Flip tulip over once golden brown on half, and repeat process.
3. Once tulip is entirely brown use slotted spoon to remove tulip from oil and place on plate with
paper towels to soak excess oil.
4. Quickly remove tulip from paper towels while it is still hot and toss in grated garlic with pepper.
