Slow Cooker Aloha shoyu Chicken

3 ½ lbs. chicken thighs

½ c. brown sugar, firmly packed

1 c. Aloha shoyu

2 ½ c. chicken broth

1/4 c. sake

2-inches ginger, peeled, crushed

4 cloves garlic, crushed

2 star anise

1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

2 TB cornstarch dissolved in ¼ c. water

Garnish: chopped green onion

Cooking Process:

Place all ingredients in slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low setting 8 hours. After 8 hours; stir in cornstarch slurry and continue cooking 30 minutes. For service: serve with lots of steamed rice, garnish with green onions. Serves 4-6.
