Kohana Rum Company or sugarcane
There are over 25 different strands of Hawaiian Ko or sugarcane. Hawaii produces some of the best in the world but no longer exports it. Most of our sugar during the plantation days was sent to California starting from 1852. The first sugar plantation in Hawaii was on the island of Lanai in 1805 but didn’t last long because due to shipping costs. Today the Kohana Rum Company on Oahu is using Hawaiiʻs native sugar cane to make some ono rums. If you haven’t done a tasting yet at the distillery its a must!
